So far, I have only heard He Don’t Live Here No More, and When the Night Was Young from the new record. I must say I wish for the chance to hear Levon sing He Don’t Live here no More. It’s a great song, and as timeless as many of your best compositions Robbie.
When the Night Was Young moved me the first time I heard it. I played it for my wife, and she was also touched. Like many of your songs, it is elegant, understated, and evokes real emotion because it’s honest and speaks to people in a genuine way.
Good luck with the collection, Robbie, and thanks.
The master, the one and only kanien’keha (people of the flint) artist.
A masterpiece “en devenir”.
Awi:io Robbie. Niàwen! Great job!
Hey Really like the samples and I ordered the cd when first put up, it has been too long for a Robbie Cd but as long as its a good one and this sounds like it will be.. Can’t wait to get this…..oh and what a guest list
I have the CD on pre-order in the UK & looking forwards to it immensely. I hoped it would be good & after hearing these clips I can see that I wont be disapponted. Robbie, you’ve been a great source of inspiration to me over the years – after many years of not playing or singing, I’m back with a new band (inc some old friends) inspired by you & The Band, Steve Winwood & Clapton …. so its glorious to find you working with the guys (Steve from my own home town of Birmingham). We have a new album out in the Spring – but I’m guessing it wont be as warmly received as yours
All the best & please try to come & see us and play for us in the UK – it would be amazing to see you. Julian x
I have pre-ordered “How to Become Clairvoyant” from Amazon and will be in the UK visiting family and friends when the CD is shipped. I look forward to hearing the entire album upon my return. ‘When The Night Was Young’ was an immediate favourite for me, as well as ‘He Don’t Live Here No More’ and ‘This Is Where I Get Off’. I’ve enjoyed being able to follow the momentum of the album’s impending release on Facebook. Looking forward to Robbie’s appearance on David Letterman on April 5th, and to seeing him play with Dawes. Best wishes, Robbie!
These songs sound GREAT!! I can’t wait for it to come out. Thanks Robbie!
This is simply the best album I’ve heard for years. An immediate masterpiece!
One the best, EXCITING, Real Music. Thank you so much!!
WOW…. super line up talent ++++++
Yet another great album
Smooth indeed
Well today I got the new album and heres what I have to say..
So after how long its been since Robbie’s last album, and not being the biggest fan of the albums after Storyville, I didn’t know what to expect. After finding out the lineup of guest musicians from Clapton to badass Tom Morello, I knew this thing had to be great. All I have to say is the whole thing is pure genius, and I’m not just saying that as a fan of his music. This album contains in my opinion a movie of story’s about his life. And by far his best lyrics and guitar work to date. The songs that have hit me hardest right now are “He Dont Live Here No More” “The Right Mistake” and “Axeman” all the others are just as amazing, but those stick out the most for me so far..But there’s still one song I left out which is the strongest performance on the album and that is “This Is Where I Get Off”, Honestly that song really shook me, Its so powerful and moving and filled with emotion that its to be compared to Richard Manuel singing his pain in “Whispering Pines”. This guys a real gem to music from his writing to his guitar playing. The image people created of Robertson being a cold monster should be lost after hearing this album..This is the real Robbie, the one that’s been there the whole time.
I’ve been waiting on this album forever…or so it seems. I couldn’t be more pleased with what I’m hearing. These songs are amazing, each one weaving a story in typical Robbie fashion. The musicians on this record are brilliant, I mean Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood? Hell yeah! What a wonderful surprise with Tom Morello and Trent Reznor! What a great record. I’ll not only enjoy this, but appreciate it for the rest of my life. I’ll never forget my Dad introducing me to Robbie’s music 30 years ago at age three and this is why I’m still a fan.
Yours and Mr. Clapton’s music made my youth bearable and this album makes me feel better about being in my 50′s. Thank you all, amazing group of musicians!
What a magnificent album from the great man. Robbie at the peak of his powers as a writer, player, singer and producer. Thrilling to hear Robbie working with Clapton and Winwood. I completely understand why Robbie waits for the muse to come to him rather than just churn out album after album but let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next one. Well done Robbie.
Thank you so much for your music, and for this amazing new release. Hope you can come to Norway soon !!
Wish you the best
Listening to “How To Become Clairvoyant” feels like the past is catching up to me. Redemption, forgiveness, surrender, holding firm to beliefs. “When The Night Was Young” points back to the turbulence of the late 60s and early 70s. “We could change the world, stop war, never seen nothin’ like this before…” The passion shared by our fellow citizens to stop the war in Vietnam could be mobilized again through ‘connectivity’ to correct the course of and out-of-control government and unnecessary suffering, both here and abroad – as I’m tapping my foot to “He Don’t Live Here No More”. Nice job, Robbie. Thanks for a look back with a conscience. And $3.99 for the entire download on Amazon recalls the price I used to pay for new LPs back in the day. A most credible release.
This is the best album…er..CD I have listened to in 10 years. Seriously, I own a vast collection of music and I am honored to have this in my ears. Robbie, don’t stop now. This is a phenomenal effort. Put Detroit on your list of cities to come play. Last year it was Peter Wolf’s “Sleepless”, this decade it’s “How to Become Clairvoyant”. This is why I have a great stereo and nothing else. Eat the rich.
I love this new album. As a diehard Band fan, I could sure hear the boys singing some of these great songs. Whatever. I love it. Thanks, Robbie.
WOW! It has been too long, but turns out to have been well worth the wait. Thank you! This album will get many plays over the years to come.
“The Right Mistake” is an intriguing song. (More on that later.)
But what got my attention the first time I listened to it were these lines:
“You could be the perfect stranger
You could be from Illinois”
Being from Illinois, I was purely delighted. I laughed out loud. It felt like a gift.
I must agree with most people on this one I said on a Facebook that it was my new drug of choice
because I can’t stop listening to it One of My favorites in a long time
Just damn great work all over This has Album of the Year written all over it
I can’t describe my feelings listening to this record. It’s a true masterpiece.
Fantastic musicians, fantasic songs and a fantastic production.
Thanks for a great album. It’s already one of my all time favorites.
